Buenos Aires, Argentina - December 2018

What inspired this photoshoot?

What I love most about travel is the people you meet and the connections you make. In November 2018 I was solo traveling in Peru. I had just completed a 10-day meditation retreat in the Sacred Valley and decided to head south to visit Colca Canyon. Like most of my travels, I went based on a recommendation. I looked up activities to do in the area and read that there was an epic ziplining course that suspended 150 feet over the canyon with the longest track measuring about 550 feet across! It was the most exhilarating adventure. It was off season when I went so I was the only person completing the course that day. I hit it off well with the instructors—2 Argentinians and a guy from Uruguay. After the run, they invited me to have lunch with them. I ended up spending the entire day with them. I didn’t leave until after midnight!

One of the instructors happened to have a sister living in Buenos Aires who was a photographer. I had told her that I would be visiting Argentina in a few weeks time, and that I was on a mission to do photoshoots all over the world. She connected me with her sister, Loli. When I arrived in Buenos Aires, Loli offered for me to stay in her apartment with her. She allowed me to stay there for 5 days! The hospitality and kindness I meet traveling is unlike any I’ve experienced.

How did you find your outfit?

At the beginning of my journey in Argentina, I spent some time in Mendoza. I wanted to be in wine country and celebrate my upcoming 34th birthday in a fun place. While getting lost in the city (my favorite thing to do when I travel), I stumbled across a local couture boutique called REVIEW. I walked in and was lusting after all of the gorgeous gowns. The owner was eager to help me and support my mission of buying local designs. I found this stunning black jumpsuit that fit me like a glove.

How did you feel during and after the photoshoot?

Buenos Aires has a certain energy to it. It’s a large bustling city with quaint cafes and shops that make it feel a little more like a neighborhood in Spain. The architecture has a very European feel to it. It was exciting to walk through the city and experience a different side to it. I felt very powerful and it wasn’t just the stunning jumpsuit. I had just completed hiking for 4 days in Patagonia and was on a complete high. I used that fire to ignite the power in my photos.

Photoshoot Credits

Photographer: dolorestestaph (aka Loli)

I had a really great time getting to know Loli and enjoy her hospitality in Buenos Aires. She is a student at University who has a photography business on the side. She specializes in portrait shots and has a real knack for capturing up close and personal shots.

Hair + Makeup: Julieta Aldazabal

Julieta is a friend and often business partner of Loli’s. She is also in University. She is a true master in visioning and applying makeup, and she is one of the most talented makeup artists I’ve worked with to date. Check out her Instagram page for video tutorials on applying makeup for a variety of looks. She did an absolute stunning job on making my eyes pop.

Fun Fact: When working with Julieta, she said that I was the first person she had applied makeup to with green eyes. This is another reason why I believe in my mission and bringing various cultures together. We can all learn from each other and have fun playing!
